The Smoky Mountains are
awesome, and "the trees embrace you."
A wise and
respected friend and neighbor who recently passed away, once said to me,
"The trees embrace you." I've never forgotten those
words, and I think of her
often. Especially in the Fall when the colors are so spectacular- my
favorite time of year. And in the Spring when the dogwoods are in
bloom it is so awesome here in the Smokies - another favorite time of
year. But then the snow capped mountains in Winter are so peaceful
and magnificent - hmm, another favorite time of year! And then
being able to enjoy hiking, wading in the river and picnics all Summer
long - could this be my favorite time of year? Spring, Summer,
Fall, and Winter - I love them all! I spent my childhood in
Indiana was then moved to Florida for 20 years. Florida was nice,
but I missed the snow and cozy fires, tulips and forsythia, and the
spectacular fall colors that living further north brings. Indiana
is too cold, but Tennessee - is like a song. I'm coming up on my
14th year in these Mountains! Wow! I remember so clearly the day
my car was packed and I was coming here to live. It was a beautiful trip
in early February. The mountains were breathtaking as I drove through
the Smoky Mountains National Park on my way into Gatlinburg. I was
elated and have been blessed by the joy and peace that God and nature
have given me here in the Smoky Mountains. The combination of the
Mountains and Woodlands of the Smokies really are a wonderment to behold
and the trees do embrace me. I feel safe. Betty, I wish you were still
here for me
to embrace. Thanks for your wise words and for being such a
special friend.
